Taiwan markets itself to India to boost tourism and other sectors
Taiwan’s tourism bureau is aiming to increase the inflow of Indian tourists, people from the film industry and business houses, according to an official of Taiwan’s tourism bureau. The country’s serene landscape, recreational parks, beaches, cable cars and high-speed train are said to be its major tourist attractions.
According to an international affairs expert, the Act East Policy of India and the enhanced inflow of Taiwanese investment will further see visitors travelling between both the nations.
Shuhan Pan, an official of the Tourism Bureau of Ministry of Transportation and Communications, was quoted by India Today as saying that measures were being taken to promote Taiwan as a tourist destination in the Indian movie and corporate sectors. Travel agents have been instructed to market Taiwan’s tourist destinations in India.
He also added that in 2015 more than 40,000 visitors from India had come to Taiwan and the trends indicate that the numbers will further increase.
In order to increase the number of affluent tourists from countries such as Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Laos, Taiwan has introduced immigrant-friendly visa policies for groups. For bringing in more MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) segments to Taiwan, group visas have been waived for groups comprising five or more people.
With the aim of making Taiwan more MICE friendly, the government has also launched a MICE Incentive Plan for the India in December 2015 which includes special measures, mice focused model itineraries and performances.
An advantage for Taiwan is that it remains one of the undiscovered tourist destinations in Southeast Asia for Indians. Taiwan also has a diverse range of hotels budget to upmarket ones to cater to different sizes of Indian purses.
A specialist in International affairs has also added that industries in Taiwan from sectors such as auto components, electronics and allied sectors evinced interested in setting up their manufacturing bases in India.
The majority of the houses in India own a Taiwanese product. The corporations of this country are currently more interested in setting up their own brands than mere being a contract manufacturer for other companies.
The expert further elaborated by saying that the companies in Taiwan now were setting aside a percentage of the internships for Indian students.
