Turkey issued over 16 million e-visas to foreigners until December 2016 ending

Turkey issued over 16 million visas to foreign travellers between April 2013 and 1 January 2017 after an electronic system was introduced.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry, announcing this on 25 January, said that the country received over $355.3 million in visa fees from visitors who wished to enter their territory during this period.

Hurriyet Daily News said that the country straddling Europe and Asia issued 16.2 million e-visas for the 18.5 million applications it received, which were about 17,000 per day.

The largest numbers of recipients of these visas were Britons, with 4.6 million. Iraq and the Netherlands also received a high number of e-visas at about 2 million and 1.8 million, respectively.  The largest number of visas were issued on 13 July 2015 as  a number of 46,747 was touched.

The ministry stated that Turkish visas could be obtained through its website www.evisa.gov.tr in just three minutes.
With the introduction of e-visas, queues have thinned at embassies, consulates and border gates of Turkey and airports all over the world. After applicants enter the required information on the website and pay through their debit or credit cards, they will be issued visas electronically.
